Coolors is an intuitive platform for creating and sharing color palettes, offering a fast color generator and contrast checker, flexible export options, and a vibrant community. It helps designers, developers, and creators find color combinations for their projects.
Problem
Finding a color palette that accurately reflects the values and nature of the project is a challenging task.
The Colors platform offers an impressive range of tools for selecting color palettes, however, there is an inherent difficulty in creating a color palette that perfectly matches the project’s values and the exact hues required, both in terms of tone and shade. Currently, the only way to overcome this challenge is inconvenient, as it requires using different tools.

Market analysis
Before characterizing, I conducted a thorough market analysis of existing platforms that offer color palette creation and AI usage.
Platforms for finding color palettes
Some of the platforms I explored offered the option of finding color palettes by searching for keywords, but it was not always intuitive or personalized. The steps to achieve an accurate color palette were too complex and required a lot of effort. In some of them, it was possible to extract a palette from an image, but it was difficult to match another additional color to the palette.
Platforms for AI-based creation.
In these platforms, I examined the possibilities of AI tools, how to achieve the desired result through prompts. I analyzed how the creations are presented, as well as the options offered to users for accuracy and personalization. This research provided me with in-depth insights into the best possible ways to create color palettes, and the shortcomings that can be improved.
Survey
A comprehensive online survey, which included numerous designers, provided valuable insights into their workflows for creating color palettes. The survey focused on understanding their habits, the tools and methods they use, as well as identifying their pain points in the process of creating a custom palette.
